I restore this worn out 1928 Illinois license plate back to original colors and like new condition. Be sure to watch until the end to see a vintage 1928 photo with the same year Illinois plate attached to a Buick. Watch more of my videos and subscribe to my channel here: / @plateflip I also have another restoration channel for old bottles and relics: / @haulinglass My third channel is for deep focus and relaxation while you work or rest: / @moodtransition Timecodes 0:00 - Intro 0:05 - Pretty Rusty 0:12 - Lettering used to be white 0:20 - Originally this was a maroon color 0:28 - I make it right 1:14 - This rust eating solution does the rest 1:22 - Sits for 24 hours 1:28 - It turns it a dark color in places 1:43 - The solution has to be rinsed off 1:55 - Must dry it well 2:05 - All rust is gone 2:19 - Some of the metal is too 2:26 - Lots of pitting 2:37 - Plate is bowed and bent 2:54 - The 6 has a long crease in it 3:47 - The border is dented 3:52 - So I use my jackhammer lol... 4:09 - Dented 2 and 6 4:38 - Much better 4:50 - Now it is more straight 5:01 - Belt sanding makes serrated edges smooth 5:13 - Jagged mounting slots and extra holes 5:44 - Better 5:49 - Prepping the metal for repair 6:16 - Green tape is used for fiberglass repairs 7:07 - Have to cut the matte before mixing resin 7:27 - Once the hardener is mixed... 7:38 - I have ten minutes before it is too thick to use 7:45 - Must move quickly 9:56 - Have to remove some fiberglass shards 10:10 - Just a little sanding next - 80 grit 10:24 - Using air to blow off the dust 10:42 - Time for primer 11:06 - Time for pitting work 11:16 - Applying filler 11:59 - Lots of tedious wet sanding to do 12:20 - Now time to spray primer again 12:37 - Still have pitting left...a thicker gray primer was used 13:40 - Pitting appears to be filled, primer again 14:33 - Our sealer has just been sprayed on, ready for paint 14:41 - Time to mix our background paint 14:52 - It is a two step enamel 15:36 - Same color, different background, true color with white background 15:46 - After 24 hours the front gets sprayed 16:08 - Lettering is next (after 48 hours of drying) 16:36 - This has to be done in a circular motion for consistency 17:01 - The flame pops the bubbles so it dries smoothly 18:20 - Borders are done with long strokes, not circular 18:31 - White goes on thin, lettering is done a second time, 48 hours later 18:46 - And then, it is finished.... 20:34 - Like and subscribe, thanks for watching!
