ZAD(ZOOM, AI, Google Documents) since 2023(Dec.) 5 The Special Monkey of Da Nang – A Hidden Guardian of the Mountain This is not an ordinary monkey. Deep in the forests above Da Nang, on the high mountains of the Son Tra Peninsula, lives a very special kind of monkey—rare, beautiful, and almost mythical. Most people never see them. They live far beyond the places humans can easily reach, at the very top of the mountain, where the forest is thick and silent. Early in the morning, before the city woke up, I rode a motorbike into the mountain with a local guide and a wildlife photographer. That day, I decided to begin a small documentary about this special monkey, with a quiet soundtrack inspired by moonlight and sunshine, something calm and respectful, like the mountain itself. Not a Normal Monkey In this mountain area, there are two kinds of monkeys. One type is more common—similar to monkeys found in many parts of Asia. But the other type lives much deeper in the forest, high above the trails where people usually stop. This second type is the one we were searching for. They are often called “flying monkeys”, not because they truly fly, but because they move through the forest like the wind—jumping effortlessly from tree to tree, from branch to branch, sometimes across wide gaps that look impossible. They live high in the canopy, rarely touching the ground. A Unique and Beautiful Appearance When I finally saw one, I understood immediately why they are so special. They have large, expressive eyes and a gentle, beautiful face. Around their face is brighter hair, almost like a natural halo. Their body is covered in dark gray to deep brown fur, with lighter colors on the hands, arms, and feet. Some have white hair on the face and beard, and patches of lighter fur on the belly. Their long tail is incredibly elegant—longer than the body, used for balance as they leap through the trees. The colors are not dull. In sunlight, their fur shines in warm brown and scarlet tones, especially on the legs and feet. They look calm, intelligent, and peaceful. Life at the Top of the Trees These monkeys live with their families, high above the forest floor. They sit together at the top of tall trees, resting, watching, grooming each other, and eating quietly. They are not aggressive. They are not noisy. They move with patience and confidence. From a distance, they almost look like part of the forest itself. The Moment of Encounter To see them, we had to climb deep into the jungle, following a narrow trail. When we reached a large rock near the peak, the guide told us to stop. “Be silent.” We stood still. No talking. No sudden movement. At first, I saw nothing. Then suddenly—movement. One monkey appeared on a branch above us. Slowly, more followed. Their faces caught the sunlight. Their white facial hair and dark bodies became clear against the green forest. It was the first time in my life I had seen them with my own eyes. I quietly took photos and video. Every moment felt rare and precious. A Memory That Stays When I returned from the mountain, I realized something important. This was not just a trip. This was not just wildlife photography. It was a reminder that Da Nang still holds deep, untouched life, hidden above the city, protected by the forest and the mountain. These monkeys are not ordinary. They are a symbol of balance, silence, and natural beauty. And once you see them, you never forget them.
