If you are, there are some interesting facts you need to know. You will be required to learn and efficiently extend and operate a firefighter hose line and nozzle (i.e. 150-200 feet of 1 3/4 hose line) Firefighters utilize hose lines to separate ourselves, victims, and the victims property from fire and potentially other hazardous substances. Typically hose lines are found on fire engines but they can also be found on fire brush trucks and quints (a blended fire apparatus equipped with fire engine and ladder capabilities) Throughout the fire academy, you will be repetitively trained in extended several different types of hose lines. We call these skill stations "HOSE LAYS." Each hose lay you will endure in the fire academy will have its own unique deployment procedure and allotted time allowed to complete the evolution (i.e. Quick attack hose lay "150-200 feet of 1 3/4 hose line," allows 3 minutes to complete) Bottom line is if you're a firefighter or are pursing the career of a firefighter, it is vital you understand how to extend and operate a hose line. Here are the steps necessary to become proficient when extending and operating 150 foot of 1 3/4 hose line: (QUICK ATTACK) 150 FOOT of 1 3/4 HOSE LINE DEPLOYMENT PROCEDURE: 1️⃣Clear left and right then safely exit the engine 2️⃣Remove the hose clamp from the engine 3️⃣Face the danger (fire) then apply the clamp to the supply line **Place the clamp 2-3 ft past the first coupling that is greater than 10 ft from the engine (on hydrant side)** 4️⃣Face your danger (fire and hydrant) then secure the clamp 5️⃣Ensure clamp is locked and centered on the hose (When completed, yell out “Clamp On” to your plug partner) 6️⃣Don SCBA and grab quick attack hose line (Ensure nozzle bale is closed) 7️⃣Stand butt to butt to the engine, then throw the nozzle over your outside shoulder 8️⃣Swim hose line with your inside arm 9️⃣Stab the back loop (big loop) with your inside arm 1️⃣0️⃣Grab the front loop (small loop) with your inside hand 1️⃣1️⃣Place inside foot on the engine step, then push off to assist clearing the hose bed (Try to keep the hose line high) 1️⃣2️⃣Hold front loop (small loop) until it tensions, then release the loop 1️⃣3️⃣Hold the back loop (big loop) until it tensions, then release the loop 1️⃣4️⃣Continue to fully extend the hose line 1️⃣5️⃣Secure hose with a knee, say "ready for water," then don your mask (Ensure the nozzle bale is closed) 1️⃣6️⃣Slowly open the nozzle bale to bleed off air, then fully open bale 1️⃣7️⃣Flow water for 2 minutes listening to RTO's target commands Follow our guide, train hard, and allow our family here at firefighter ambitions help you and your family reach your goal of becoming a firefighter.
