G'day everyone, In spite of the fact that I have a lathe that is equipped with a threading leadscrew and a tailstock die holder, I still use my die holder quite often for cutting threads. That is fine, except the standard die holder (and every on that I have come across) is not very well designed. I tend to use 3 screws to hold the dies and I never know which screws are holding when it comes time to remove the die. I always seem to have a screw come loose and drop on the floor. I think there is a better way of doing this, at least for most non split dies, which is what I use. In this video I will make a die holder with a similar design to the tap holder/tap wrench that I made last year. I will machine and weld up the body from some 1020 steel and case harden it in the furnace to give it a wear resistant and durable case. I hope you like the design and like the video.
