🎓 UNITE! Sustainable Mobility Forum – Lecture Series 2025/26 🌍 Topic: Assisted Tramways 👤 Speaker: Prof. Bruno Dalla Chiara (Politecnico di Torino) 🗓️ Friday, January 23, 2026 | 13:00–14:00 CEST Tramways are a proven backbone of sustainable urban mobility—and today’s systems are becoming smarter through assistance technologies and operational innovations. In this lecture, Prof. Bruno Dalla Chiara provides a historical and future-oriented overview of modern tram systems, with a focus on priority lanes, traffic light priority (TSP), and driver/operator assistance that improve reliability, speed, and energy performance. The talk covers key system components—track and infrastructure, rolling stock, and recent innovations—and discusses why assisted tram operations remain highly relevant for cities aiming to increase capacity and reduce emissions. With typical hourly capacities of a few thousand passengers per hour per direction, tramways can deliver efficient, space-conscious public transport while supporting long-term sustainability goals. The seminar also references current developments in energy consumption and tram system modernization. 🚋 Key Topics Covered ✔️ Tramway infrastructure and track characteristics ✔️ Rolling stock and system design basics ✔️ Priority lanes and their impact on performance ✔️ Traffic signal priority and operational reliability ✔️ Driver/operator assistance and ITS innovations ✔️ Capacity benchmarks and sustainability benefits ✔️ Latest developments and energy consumption considerations 🔗 Learn more about the series Series overview: https://www.verkehr.tu-darmstadt.de/v...
