Originally streamed Jan 4, 2023. King's Quest VI was released in 1992. I remember being very excited for this game, and as this was the 90s, it was common for highly anticipated games to live up to the build-up. This is one such game; it's a masterpiece, easily one of the best point & click adventure games ever made. In this game you play Alexander, Kings Graham's son, for the second time. The game follows a plot thread that was set up by the end of King's Quest V, with Alexander in search of Princess Cassima. This game has easily the best graphics in the series, with incredible pixel art that outshines just about any other DOS game. This could certainly be considered a AAA release of computer games of the time! The soundtrack is also marvelous, the game is full of really memorable music. Even the story is more compelling than usual, with some great characters. The game was re-released with a CD-rom version that included voice acting, a new cinematic opening cutscene, and more detailed animation. It plays generally like past King's Quest games, although this time there is not really a "grid" of screens to explore, but rather various screens that connect in a fairly simple way. Although each area is very simple in it's layout, there are multiple areas that you have access to at any one time. This game also not only has multiple endings, but it has a good ending path with considerably more content that takes some extra work to find; it's extremely worth it as you visit some of the coolest areas in the game! In terms of puzzles, this game is probably a bit more polished and reasonable than past King's Quests. I believe it is still possible to softlock yourself, but you have to go out of your way. This game finishes the trilogy of amazing King's Quest games and ends up not only being the best in the series, but possibly the best adventure game of all time. (I still might choose The Longest Journey over this game.) It's an absolute must play.
