On January 22nd, 2026, to mark the Franco-German Friendship Day and the 20th anniversary of the Franco-German Office for the Energy Transition (OFATE/DFBEW), the latter, in collaboration with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, the French Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industrial, Energy and Digital Sovereignty and the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted the 8th edition of the Franco-German Energy Forum on the following topic: Security of supply in France, Germany and the EU: requirements, grid expansion and interconnectors The following questions were discussed at this year's edition of the Energy Forum followed by an audience of approximately 500 participants: What is the European framework and what are the scenarios for electricity demand and grid expansion? What are the costs of decarbonisation compared to those of dependence on fossil fuels? How can the security, reliability and development of grids be ensured? What are the opportunities and challenges associated with system services, demand side management and flexibility? What are the means to ensure the adequacy of resources in terms of industrial capacity, financing and refinancing of the grid?
