This powerful statement reveals two important cups in the Christian life. The present cup we partake of during the Memorial represents the cup of suffering, reminding believers of Christ’s sacrifice and the trials, reproaches, and sacrifices that followers of Christ experience in this present life. However, Jesus also promised a future cup—the new cup in the Kingdom, symbolizing joy, glory, honor, and eternal fellowship with Him. Those who faithfully share in the cup of suffering now will one day share in the cup of joy and glory in the Kingdom of God. The present trials and sacrifices prepare believers for the eternal blessings promised by Christ. The Bible teaches that believers who share in Christ’s sufferings will also share in His glory. When the Kingdom is fully established, the faithful will experience transformation, immortality, and everlasting joy in the presence of the Lord.
