Oasis Church | Learn • Grow • Overflow Teaching at Oasis Church In this message from 2 Timothy, we examine Paul’s warning to Timothy about the spiritual dangers that will arise in the last days. Writing from prison near the end of his life, Paul urgently prepares Timothy to recognize false teaching, defend the faith, and stand firmly in the truth of the gospel. Oasis - 2 Timothy 3 - 3.1.2026 … Paul begins with a strong command: “But mark this.” This is more than a casual warning. It is a call to absolute awareness. Paul wants Timothy—and the church—to understand that difficult times will come and that deception will attempt to infiltrate the church from within. The passage lists characteristics that reveal the spirit of the age: people who are lovers of themselves, lovers of money, proud, abusive, ungrateful, unholy, and lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God. The danger is not only moral decay, but spiritual imitation—people who appear religious while denying the power of God. Paul explains that false teachers often disguise themselves, gaining influence by exploiting vulnerable people and promoting distorted truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses by imitating the works of God, counterfeit faith attempts to mimic what is real while rejecting the authority of God. The message reminds us that the only way to recognize a counterfeit is to know the original. Truth is found in Jesus Christ alone. The gospel—His death, burial, resurrection, and ascension—is the foundation of our faith and the standard by which every teaching must be measured. As followers of Christ, we are called to defend the faith, discern truth from deception, and stand firm in the gospel that saves.
