Panelists: Michelle Munyikwa, MD, PhD Darius Brittle-Dockery, PhD, MPH Leandris Liburd, PhD, MPH, MA David Simmons, PhD Health disparities, medical racism, abolition medicine, radical public health, equitable healthcare and more are all buzzwords in and outside of academia these days! In collaboration with the ABA, the SMA invites students and early career scholars to a mentorship event on applied careers in medicine, science, and health related fields outside of academia. Panelists from SMA and ABA will speak on how their training in anthropology helped them to develop meaningful and sustainable careers outside of traditional academic spaces though sometimes with connections to academia. We will talk about how and when to find non-academic job listings, strategies for applying, connect you with a network of mentors and discuss how to translate academic skills and accolades into non-academic career success. We hope to discuss all the things that you shouldn't have to pay a consultant for but sometimes feel tempted to post-PhD. This webinar will largely be a casual Q&A format to answer your questions on these issues. By participating in this event, you will have a better idea of how to strategize for non-academic job markets, learn how to apply your robust skills outside of the Ivory Tower, and build your network of colleagues to whom you can turn for help.
