After the opening of the Lhasa-Nyingchi Railway, Fuxing model bullet trains powered by both electricity and internal combustion engines will be available in all 31 provincial-level regions on the Chinese mainland. The new railway is a single-line electrified railway with a length of 435 kilometers and a designed speed of 160 kilometers per hour. There are currently nine stations in the cities of Lhasa, Shannan, and Nyingchi that can handle passenger and freight transportation. Thanks to the railway, the journey between Lhasa and Nyingchi has been shortened to 3.5 hours, and the trip between Lhasa and Shannan has been reduced to one hour and 10 minutes. The newly opened train route provides Nyingchi with access to railway services for the first time in history. Located in a valley between Gangdis and Himalayas in southeast Tibet, over 90 percent of the tracks are at an elevation of more than 3,000 meters above sea level. What's more, the railway crosses the Yarlung Zangbo River 16 times. The opening of the railway coincides with Tibet's peak tourism season, and the number of tourists to the region is estimated to double this year. Moreover, the railway is also expected to significantly promote social and economic development, people's livelihoods, ethnic unity, and rural revitalization in the region. The Lhasa-Nyingchi Railway is part of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway still under construction, which will connect Lhasa and Chengdu, the capital of neighboring Sichuan Province.
