DETAILS BELOW : I submitted this videos to the Gobelins as part of my master application in 2024. Applicants have to provide a demoreel video like this one and also a motivation video. If you want more detail on the demoreel video you can read the informations below :) DISCLAIMER : These informations are from the 2024 Master application and may change ! To enter Gobelins's Master of Arts in Character Animation and Animated Filmmaking, the applicants have to make two videos (motivation and demoreel). Here are the things the demoreel video must show (from the application form) : "the candidate's personal and/or professional work" -"character animation, modelisation, modelisation, layout, set-up, textures, camera mapping, compositing, lighting, etc" -"end credit with mastered softwares" It had to be 2 minutes long Pictures can stay maximum 2 seconds 2D and 3D exercises are required Making offs are expected for group projects Detail what you did if it was from a group project (see the captions in the video) NO MUSIC (I added some here so you wouldn't die of boredom) Other more detailled criterias were : Strong drawing skills Good level in 2D and 3D animation Skills in 3D modelling, setup and rendering Adaptability to different graphic styles Sense of composition Ability to create universes and characters to tell stories Experience in layout and storyboarding Ability to express movement through drawing in any type of drawn representation: sketches, studies... Ability to master colour, light and space. Mastery of compositing and editing. The due date was the 29th of February 2024. A month later, applicants knew if they were selected or not to pass the Oral exam which occured in late April. PERSONAL NOTES : The works you can see in this video are either from personal studies and projects or from school projects (see the captions) Demoreels can be very different from one student to another Some don't have a lot of animation, some have a lot of it. Everyone has more of something (Charater design, layout, animation etc) What is important is to show all the things you can make even if this is not your favourite thing to do. Diversify your techniques and works. It helps to follow the list of example they send in the application form and also to watch what other students did in the past. If you have a lot so put in the video, maybe select your best works and you can also make the pictures last a veeery short amount of time (like only 1 sec, they will pause to watch don't worry) I wish good luck for all the students who want to attempt entering the Gobelins too and I hope this video and these informations helped you a bit with it :)
