Endangered Places - The Coraline House

Built in 1860, the Coraline House is a rare Second Empire style Victorian located in New Berlin, New York. Known for its mansard roof and 19th-century craftsmanship, the house has stood for more than 160 years, but today it faces rapid deterioration and potential loss. In this short video, I share the history of the Coraline House, why Second Empire architecture was significant in the mid-1800s, and why this property still matters despite its current condition. Once a prominent local residence, the house is now critically endangered due to roof failure, structural collapse, and prolonged exposure to the elements. Through my nonprofit, Endangered Places, I am working with the New York State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) on a National Register of Historic Places nomination to help unlock preservation tools and stabilization opportunities.
