Seyðisfjörður as Night is FallingL

Like many of my days in Iceland, this was a long day. Seyðisfjörður was just over the mountain from Egilsstaðir, or so it appeared on the map. Like many things in Iceland, prepare for an adventure! The Route 93 connecting the two towns gains in elevation quite quickly until Egilsstaðir and the Lagarfljót are just specks on the valley floor. The road passes through a section of highland which was still brightly white with fast-melting snow that July; it then wends its way down through the fjord until reaching quaint Seyðisfjörður. While the other Seyðisfjörður slideshow shows the hamlet in the brilliance of morning light with wispy strands of clouds blowing through, this slideshow shows the same location in the tranquility of the early evening. One of the mountains blocks the low midnight sun in the summer evenings so a shadow is cast over the majority of the town while the highland ridges and peaks remain glowing for much longer into the evening. The primary song here is "Slumber My Darling" as interpreted by Alison Krauss. What a great lullaby for falling asleep in beautiful Seyðisfjörður!
