Katambuga House is one of the lodges that we recommend for our guests doing a Tanzanian - "Northern Circuit Safari" this includes The Serengeti, Mount Kilimanjaro, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire. Having one or two nights here to start with is really the right plan so you can catch your breath after your journey to Tanzania and if there are any schedule changes, which is not uncommon in today's world, it will hopefully not affect the rest of your safari plans. You would generally arrive at Kilimanjaro Airport which is where all the International flights come in to, so from there it is about 45min to 1 hour drive depending on the time of day. The lodge itself is in a nice quiet area on the Western side of Arusha with a clear view of Mount Meru. There are 8 rooms here each with interleading doors, so for families it works really well, and no problem with privacy for separate bookings. Very nice swimming pool with a great view of Mount Meru and gardens that are a combination of wild and manicured areas so there are always some nice birds passing through so you can start getting your eye in for what lies ahead. It is not a super luxury place and does not pretend to be that, it is really a clean and comfortable place with a great food product and very accommodating team of staff, and nice gardens. It is also well located for the start of your safari whether you are flying to your start point or driving it is on the right side of town to get going easily.
