What is an Interdisciplinary Artist? //Artist Talk #1//FinnGravesArt//Artist Vlog #19 As an interdisciplinary artist, for me, this means I am a multi-media artist. Which translates to: I work in multiple mediums, across artistic disciplines. I write, draw, paint, photograph, video blog on the regular. My main focuses as an interdisciplinary artist over the last decade have been: Developing my voice as an artist by honing my illustration style, acrylic painting style and experimenting with new mediums. One of the new mediums I'm working with is art dolls. I'm trying to create three-dimensional paintings you can touch. Being a mixed-media artist allows me a range of materials to work with. but there are complications. Some of the top stereotypes are: 1. Being a jack of all trades and master of none. 2. You'll never get good at one thing. 3. You have to narrow your focus to be a good artist. I've been writing, drawing and taking photographs since I was 14 years old. Which is crazy. No one type of art medium fulfills every need I have for self-expression. I believe my life is richer for being a mixed-media, interdisciplinary artist.
