Pastry chefs scrambled to assemble the dessert cookie tray after a special-order chocolate mold of London's Big Ben didn't turn up in the mail until Thursday morning. The gala was given only official status, because state dinners are reserved for heads of state, not prime ministers. Sir Elton John and Stevie Wonder provided the entertainment at the official do.
