National Botanical Garden | Lucknow | Uttar Pradesh | India | Sixty and Travelling National Botanical Garden, Lucknow, is home to the National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI), which is an apex level national research laboratory under jurisdiction of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Govt. of India. It is also the third largest botanical garden in India after Kolkata and Bengaluru. Besides it's premier position in botanical research, NBRI is well known even outside the scientific fraternity for a variety of reasons. The Annual Flower Show in NBRI is a very sought after event with very large footfalls. While in NBRI, we came to know the many other reasons for why it's so famous. There is a banyan tree within NBRI campus, which has been witness to the first war of Indian independence way back in 1857. One of the species of a plant displayed in NBRI dates back to more than 3 million years, and is supposed to be the oldest living species! Another plant species claims to be from the Mahabharata period! We also got to see a bonsai plant 62 years old and still thriving. We also visited a special section of the garden for visually or physically challenged visitors and were very happy to know that this special section is one amongst only 6 such locations around the world! There were many many wonderful things showcased there. We are specially thankful to Dr. S. K. Tiwari, Chief Scientist, NBRI who personally went around with us explaining the scientific nitty gritty to us in layman terms. All in all a great and exciting experience! Bye till our next outing! https://nbri.res.in/ #nbrilucknow #nationalbotanicalgardenlucknow #nationalbotanicalresearchinstitutelucknow #sixtyandtravelling #tourism
