Fatehpur Sikri, Uttar Pradesh, India | Sixty and Travelling After covering Ladakh (which is a Union Territory) and Delhi (which is a State), we now set out for Uttar Pradesh State. This a part of our endeavour to cover the Indian States and Union Territories one after the other. The Playlist for all the India related vlogs till now is attached. In Uttar Pradesh, our first destination is, Fatehpur Sikri. It's an ancient town about 50 km from Agra and about 250 km from national capital, New Delhi. In medieval India during the period of Mughal Empire, the third Mughal Emperor, Akbar took a fancy for the beautiful town of Fatehpur Sikri and wanted to make it his capital. But after a short period of few years, the idea was abandoned due to water shortage and proximity to other kingdoms which posed a potential security threat. We started from Agra early on a summer morning. It was a beautiful 50 km drive. The entrance to the town and the Fort was specially spectacular with so many beautiful peacocks roaming around the lush green fields. We spent almost two hours going around the Fort and surrounding area. Awesome structures, stunning carvings on ceilings and walls, signs of secular mindset of Emperor Akbar exemplified in practice of Din-i-Ilahi, the pomp and show of the Mughal Empire, the affluence in India in those days -- Fatehpur Sikri is a witness to all these and lot more.
