This is a variation on hip hop music. Hip hop culture originated in New York in the 1970s and consists of the elements MC (rap), DJ (scratching), breakdancing, and graffiti (street art). At the time in the Bronx, young people enjoyed music at outdoor events called block parties. This is where DJs would manipulate records to create endlessly repeating rhythms known as breakbeats. For this reason, a major characteristic of hip hop music is the repetitive use of looped rhythm patterns. This piece samples “Thé à la Menthe (La Caution)” used in the film "Ocean's Twelve," looping its chord progression. I have long wanted to create artwork based on a little moving moments or things I find interesting in daily life. However, in this world where the decimal system reigns supreme, 100 is an important milestone, therefore I have set 100 variations as my immediate goal.
