North Branch Trail | Sketchy Skokie | Evanston Rides

August monthly Evanston Rides group ride from fountain square hosted by Downtown Evanston and the Evanston Transit Alliance. We rode north to Lincoln, a quiet street that could be a greenway someday, then through Wilmette on bike friendly roads to the North Branch. The return route took us on Main Street through Skokie, a busy stroad with a painted bike lane. We had a bit of an incident with an aggressive Toyota minivan at McCormick that started in the left turn lane but pushed their way through our group to make a right turn. Skokie has had several car/bike crashes recently, some fatal, and is still only doing the minimum in most cases to install safe infrastructure. I typically do longer rides on the North Branch and prefer to access it from further north in the suburbs or south into Chicago to avoid the bad Skokie roads and drivers.
