The disused railway between Ripley, Denby and Little Eaton in Derbyshire. Link to video by UTTOX5F of the Class 20 Railtoue Denby Dawdler on 22nd April 1989 - • Denby Dawdler 22/04/89 Originally called the Ripley Branch, opened by the Midland Railway in 1855 - linking the Midland railway near Derby with Butterley via several collieries en route. As the northern section of the line past Denby closed in the 1960s, the line became known as the Denby Branch. Don't forget to watch part 1 from Ripley to Kilburn first - • The Disused Railway Ripley and Denby Branc... We start part 2 from the site of the former Kilburn station. From here we get a pretty uninterrupted walk down the old trackbed, which has been cleared of vegetation helping us find plenty of disused railway remains and infrastructure. Crossings, railway huts, old gates, bits of old rail. We pass under the A38 and head into Coxbench, with it's disused station platform and buildings. An uncommon sight of the former level crossing with 3 gates. It is in Coxbench that we find the old quarry branch line with it's turntable and tunnel. Moving on the route of the lost railway, we enter Little Eaton, passing the Jack O'Darleys bridge with its arches spanning the disused railway, the Bottle Brook and the Little Eaton Gangroad Tramway. Next stop is Little Eaton station and the site of the former level crossing before the line vanishes into an industrial estate before the junction with the main Mainline railway. The Little Eaton Wharfe where the gangroad met the Derby Canal has now gone apart from one building where we can see a rusty old clock the only thing remaining.
