The second largest member of the ceratopsian family behind Triceratops, Torosaurus possesses one of the largest skulls of any known terrestrial animal, measuring up to 3 meters in length. Some paleontologists believe Torosaurus is nearly identical to its more famous cousin (a large bulky body, a wide, sweeping frill, and three horns; one on its snout and two above its eyes, and its beak and shearing teeth allowed it to eat tough vegetation like palms and horsetails), so much so that it is considered a more mature form of Triceratops. However, there are some notable differences in Torosaurus; its horns are straighter, its frill is more oval-shaped, and the animal itself is slightly smaller in size. Like other ceratopsians, Torosaurus lived in herds led by a dominant bull. The bulls would often find themselves in clashes for females and leadership. The cows were also very protective of their offspring. Additionally, armed with two long horns above its eyes, not much would threaten Torosaurus – the only exception was another Torosaurus and Tyrannosaurus.
