To find out more about our work with orang-utans, visit: http://wwf.org.uk/orangutan In this film you can see a collection of orang-utans in Bukit Piton Forest Reserve, where we’re working with partners to restore 2,400 hectares on the northern bank of the second longest river in Sabah, the Segama River. A world without orang-utans is inconceivable - but destruction of their rainforest habitat has pushed them closer to extinction. Dependent on trees for their existence, orang-utans sleep in nests and travel with ease through the forest canopy. They feed primarily on fruits and therefore play an important role as seed dispersers, allowing more fruit trees to grow and flourish in the forest. But unsustainable forest management practices and forest fires caused by long spells of drought have severely degraded the quality and value of the forest – putting it more at risk of conversion to agricultural land, particularly oil palm plantations. WWF is working to restore and rehabilitate forests in Sabah, Borneo – providing suitable habitat for orang-utans and protecting biodiversity.
