KAKAMEGA WIDOWS EMPOWERMENT MEETING

I held a meeting for thousands of widows at Malava High School Grounds in Kakamega County. The three main challenges widows in the Western Region face are property inheritance, land succession, and wife inheritance. Despite the challenges, I urged the widows to keep their dreams in focus and, through hard work, bring them to fulfillment. I also called on different agencies to step in and make the lives of widows better. I recounted my mother's life as a widow, from which I drew critical lessons about the reality of widowhood, including her shear determination as she went into business with little capital. We also distributed dry foodstuffs. Present were Kakamega First Lady Prof. Janet Barasa, Woman Representative Elsie Muhanda, Chair Interfaith Forum Bishop Eli Taliti, Area MCA Peter Waname, County Commissioner Michael Mwangi, and Regional Director Social Development Western Region Ben Makosi among others.
