It's week 5 of marathon training! And the biggest lesson I've learned over 14 marathons? Recovery isn't the absence of training. Recovery IS training. For years, I thought: Rest days = lazy Easy runs = pointless Constant exhaustion = training hard I was wrong. Training is the stimulus. Recovery is where adaptation happens. You don't get stronger during mile repeats — you get stronger when your body repairs afterward. At 48, I can't just grind anymore. If I train hard without recovering well, I don't improve — I just dig a hole. This video breaks down: Why recovery is WHERE progress happens HRV, sleep, fueling, and easy pace discipline Why the "No Days Off" trend is just not a good idea How I'm approaching recovery differently for marathon #15 Drop a comment if you struggle with rest days — or if you want to defend the NDO trend (good luck with that) --- ABOUT ME: RRCA Certified Run Coach NASM Certified Personal Trainer Training for marathon #15 at age 48 Goal: Sub-4:00 marathon PR at Sugarloaf Marathon (May 17, 2026) Newsletter: https://designedfordistance.beehiiv.com/ Website: https://designedfordistance.com
