AIE and Additure set out to replace a liquid-cooling system with an advanced air-cooled solution for the 225CS rotary engine, while still delivering 20kW of continuous power at 20,000 ft. The solution was accomplished by utilising Laser Powder Bed Fusion process for critical rotary engine components. Using LPBF, Additure worked closely with the AIE engineers to produce otherwise impossible designs via casting or machining. The subsequent designs were iteratively manufactured by Additure alongside heat treatment, finishing and the development of inspection and test plans. Additure’s in-house Nikon SLM500 LPBF machine was used to build the additive components at scale. CNC machining was conducted at Holmbridge Engineering, using the Hermle 5-axis platform to meet the tight tolerances required, before delivery to AIE for coating, final grinding, assembly and engine test. ________________________________ “Engineering Excellence" is at the heart of everything we do, from the people we employ and train, to the partners we work with, through to the service we deliver to our valued customers. Complex manufacturing requirements demand an understanding of not just the production processes themselves but material flow, WIP, stock control, cash conservancy and ultimately ROI. We fully understand these factors because we have been there ourselves. From our directors to our sales managers and beyond, our team were engineers first. This wealth of expertise means we do not just sell machines, we are able to collaborate with our customers to create solutions tailored to their unique needs. https://www.kingsburyuk.com/ Our success is based on four key elements: ► Lowest Cost per Part on machine tools: We achieve this through engineering expertise, innovative production solutions and more efficient machining. ► Complete Support We operate a nationwide network of mobile Service Engineers, ensuring that we can be on your site within 24 hours. This allows us to resolve any problem quickly and with minimum disruption to your business. ► Long-Term Value: When you choose to work with Kingsbury, we don’t just think about your short-term needs.
