Read this! It contributes: I noticed a few months ago that my own YouTube style has changed over a hundred or so videos, as I've taken to shaking my camera, abusing the deploy and adopted new editing techniques. This video was born out of a curiosity to see how other YouTubers have developed over many, many more years and videos than me. Within weeks of catching the Nerf bug, I noticed a bearded, long haired man, poised a box on a YouTube thumbnail. I just had to click to discover what was in "The Incredible Jelly Box". Then I clicked another of his videos. This time it was a box from the UK. And another. This "Bobololo" seemed to be a serial box recipient, and a very lively one at that! I was immediately enthralled by this Nerf Viking's highly engaging (and until recently highly bearded) presence before the camera. That, plus his entertaining edits. The intros and promotional videos in particular offer us a glimpse into a spontaneous, creative mind with the discipline to edit a vision through to completion. But more than merely amusing edits, we're seeing the weight of Bobo's authenticity as a Nerfing veteran who clearly loves to both play and mod, sharing experience gleaned from an unspeakable number of hours at the work-bench; an active community member, mutually respected by other greats within the Nerfing world; a giant personality, who playfully offers us a place on his shoulders so that we can share his passion for the hobby from his own elevated (literally, compared to average!) perspective each time he uploads. Whilst I intended to primarily use footage from the first few seconds of each video, I realised that increasingly enthusiastic admonisions to "have a great day wherever you are" with which Bobo concluded his videos were also very much worth celebrating! I decided I just had to discover where this feature started; the Nerf Viking initially ended his videos mostly with "I hope you've enjoyed this video and I'll make another one for you later", and I knew that there must have been a magical moment where this changed. I have to say, I enjoyed the search for this moment, because I didn't realise just how many different flavours of "have a great day, wherever you are!" there were. I eventually pinpointed the first few times this happened, and added these to the final edit. I've included clips from all but three of Bob's videos, from his first ever to his first upload in 2019. Whilst Bobo's status within the community has never been in question, I think there is a poetic justice in the way Bobo's contribution to RapidStrike technology has recently been recognised in the production and commercial distribution of the Bobololo trigger plate. There are very few members of any community who can claim to have pioneered a technique or product to the point where it is widely accepted by members of that community as the go-to solution for a given problem, and I'm happy that my production of this video has been delayed enough to capture that. I've deliberately included video titles at the bottom of the screen, which allows you to easily identify and find any of the videos used which you want to view or review on Bobololo's own channel, which I would encourage you to use this video as an index to help you find any of the Nerf Viking's hidden gems which you haven't yet enjoyed. His channel link is: / iambobololo On a final note, It struck me how appologetic Bobo was for periods of time without uploading. I saw this several times, and I feel that this shows that Bobo cares about those who choose to enjoy his content, but also that he has the courage to step away and address other areas of life when needed. Whilst poducing high quality content such as Bobo's is satisfying and enjoyable, it is very time consuming and many people who are active on YouTube have alluded to the challenge of regularly posting content both as a hobby and as an income related activity. I would hope we all have the perspective and self awareness to look after ourselves and put first things first so that we can continue to do what we do in the community in a sustainable sensible way.
