Description / Social Media Post: What are the hazards you can look for when assessing ice conditions? Various clues suggest a body of water is or is not safe to use. Other Tips: Safe ice will be solid-coloured, clear, and flat. Save bodies of water will be still, standing, without moving water underneath. As spring thaw sets in, avoid areas with moving water, discolouration in the ice, dark, fluffy, or shaded patches of ice, areas with melt water, or objects that may attract sunlight. Preparation: Understand what ice thickness is required for the weight of your vehicle. Consider flotation suits or life jackets when going on the ice. Prevention: Ask locals what the seasonal considerations are for that body of water. Performance: Drill holes to verify ice thickness. Mark hazardous areas with spray or flags. Avoid going out on the ice if at all possible. Check the Ice thickness, learn about the body of water, and use the information locals provide. If someone falls in, dial 911 as soon as you can. Do not go in after the victim. Want to support the creation of content just like this?
