Featured is an instructive chess miniature between Tigran L. Petrosian and Alexander Grischuk from the 2024 FIDE World Rapid & Blitz Championships. After the first 9 moves, we have a common a quiet setup for each side. Why might Grischuk be delaying kingside castles? After Petrosian returns his knight to f3, in a way offering a draw and gifting Grischuk a tempo, we observe a fishing pole idea. Grischuk plants his knight on g4, hooks it with h5, and leaves it as bait. Since Grischuk has not yet castled, his h-rook is ready to immediately pounce if the bait is taken! #AlexanderGrischuk Image of Alexander Grischuk by Lennart Ootes lennartootes.com I'm a self-taught National Master in chess out of Pennsylvania, USA who was introduced to the game by my father in 1988 at the age of 8.
