In this episode of our Stone Barn Renovation and Off-Grid living journey in Central Portugal, we started noticing mold appearing inside our granite Stone Barn Conversion. After weeks of relentless winter rain, moisture has begun pushing through the 60 cm thick granite walls of the barn — something we definitely did not expect to see inside our off-grid home after finally finishing the roof and moving in. In this video we take a closer look at the mold forming inside the stone barn and share what we think might be causing the moisture in the walls. There is also real progress in the stone barn kitchen this week. The walls are now fully pointed and the lime wash is finished, and for the first time the kitchen space is starting to feel like a proper room. Spring is slowly arriving in rural Portugal and the off-grid garden is waking up again, which means plenty of gardening work around the property. Later in the video we attempt a rather unusual tractor trailer tyre repair using fire — something often seen in rural farming areas when a tyre bead refuses to seal to the rim.
