In this video, I talk about the connection between diet and acne, since acne is often explained mainly through stress, hormones, or genetics, while everyday lifestyle factors like diet are often discussed less. I explain why diet has historically been difficult to study in research, how this can make diet appear less relevant in data even when it may play a role for individuals, and why skin reactions to food can vary from person to person depending on things like hormones, inflammation levels, microbiome, genetics, and environment. The goal of this video is to help you better understand why acne advice is often built around population averages, reduce the pressure around thinking there is only one universal cause of acne, and make it easier to feel confident observing your own skin patterns and understanding how your individual body may respond to different foods over time.
