Barbara Cole Salmeron is the creator of the Relationship Harmony Masterclass Series and author of Relationship Harmony Hacks. The key learning from the interview with Barbara includes the following:- There are fundamental differences in how men and women communicate. Men generally need less detail than women are compelled to give. While women like to provide details, men want the bottom line. Women need to be heard and understood and when they feel supported in this way they feel safer and are more productive It is important to avoid assumptions, what is obvious to the male brain is not obvious to the female brain, and vice versa. Guard against miscommunication by repeating and validating “This is what I heard you say…it that right?” Contributory factors for a successful couple’s relationship include feeling respected; feeling safe; knowing your partner has your back; open communication; and regular appreciation. All relationships, whether at home or in the workplace, are improved when we replace criticism with appreciation. Everyone gets there faster with coaches and mentors because by learning from people with relevant experience we avoid some of the obvious pitfalls. Stay focused by setting goals and breaking them down into incremental achievable steps; and by having and meeting deadlines. Tips for relieving anxiety and sharpening focus Breathing is the best antidote to stress. Take several deep breaths, breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth. Be conscious of the breath and ensure the exhale is twice as long as the inhale. This regulation of our breathing takes us out of the “fight or flight” state we get into when we are anxious.
