Join me for a rainy winter bass fishing trip at Shasta Lake! The day started with overcast skies, light winds, and temperatures in the mid-40s to low-50s. Rain fell off and on throughout the day, turning into a downpour at 1600 hours that didn’t let up. Despite the weather, the bass were biting, and I had an incredible day on the water, catching 21 fish total. My best 5 weighed in at 11.35 lbs! The morning bite was all about the shaky head, while the football head jig came alive around noon. Here's a breakdown of the baits I used: 6-inch Zoom Trick Worm in Green Pumpkin Candy (Shaky Head) – Dragged slowly along the bottom for consistent bites, especially in the morning. 1/2 oz Football Head Jig with Twin Tail Grub (Green Pumpkin/Trash Candy) – Pitched into cover and hopped rapidly to trigger reaction strikes, picking up in the afternoon. Spinnerbait – Tried for covering water but didn’t produce any bites. 6-inch S-Waver – Thrown to target larger fish but didn’t entice any takers. The highlight of the day? A beautiful 3.04-lb spotted bass, my best on Shasta Lake this year! Bottom-contact presentations were the key to success in the cooler water and rainy conditions.
