I recently had the absolute privilege of celebrating 12 extraordinary young people from across the Euroa electorate — each one a deserving recipient of the Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop Award. It was an honour to welcome nine of these students and their families to Parliament for this special moment. I want to congratulate Angus Rowe, Claire Hemming, Gabriel Mosley, Hunter Friederich, Hunter O’Bree, Lincoln Terry, Oliver Healy, Riley Mckenzie, Rose DeFazio, Roxanne Clark, Tom Harris and Zoe Holden. This award is named after one of our true local heroes, Sir Edward ‘Weary’ Dunlop — a man whose values of compassion, courage, humility, leadership, integrity, friendship and forgiveness still inspire us today. Each of these young people has lived out those values in remarkable ways — whether it’s overcoming personal hardship, stepping into leadership roles, achieving in academics or sport, or simply being that loyal, dependable friend everyone can count on. Their resilience, strength and kindness reflect exactly what this award is all about. To the parents, guardians, and teachers who’ve supported them — thank you. You’ve helped shape the kind of leaders our community will be proud of for years to come. Watch this video to hear more about their achievements and why this is one of the most meaningful moments in our parliamentary year.
