Violin: V Thyagarajan Mridangam: Madras A Kannan (Recorded on May 25, 1979) In this magnificent composition, Muthuswami Dikshidar glorifies Lord Akshayalinga, the eternal, self-existent Shiva, as the infinite source of creation and dissolution, untouched by illusion. The song portrays Shiva as the compassionate protector, the embodiment of supreme consciousness (Sat–Chit–Ananda), and the ultimate refuge for devotees. Through poetic imagery and deep philosophical expression, Dikshidar emphasizes the Lord’s transcendental nature, boundless grace, and divine harmony, merging devotion (Bhakthi) with spiritual wisdom (Jnana). You are the lord of countless living beings. Oh Siva, please protect. O Shiva, whose very nature is imperishable (and who is the embodiment of the sacred syllables), of immeasurable glory, who rides the bull Nandi, the enchanter of the world, who skillfully punished Daksha, the very embodiment of divine qualities, who excels even Brahma, the supreme master of philosophical truth and definition, the partaker of nectar, and whose gracious glance is as enlightening as that of the Guru. O Shiva, who is with the goddess dwelling beneath the Badari tree, Lord of Bhadrakali, who is won over by devotees, who is worshipped by the gods led by Vishnu (the father of Manmatha), who is untouched by the workings of Maya, the compassionate father of Guruguha, who transcends the three guṇas and is approached by noble souls, O Sankara, whose heart is as tender as freshly churned butter, who delights in the music of Tumburu at dawn, who arose from the sacred “Hrim” mantra, Lord of the golden mountain Mount Meru, who is like the eternal wish-fulfilling celestial tree to those who seek refuge at his lotus feet, the source of the universe, whose Chaitra festival is celebrated with chariots, elephants, horses and foot soldiers, O Sadasiva, embodiment of Existence-Consciousness-Bliss. --------------------------------------- DISCLAIMER : These songs have been uploaded for hearing pleasure only and as an archive for Carnatic music.
