We often want God to be reassuring, predictable, and gentle on our preferences. But Scripture presents Him as something far weightier: holy, sovereign, and uncompromising. He is not shaped by our comfort or impressed by our activity. He is not managed by our explanations or softened by our excuses. God’s love is not fragile, and His holiness is not negotiable. He corrects because He cares. He confronts because He saves. When God disrupts our plans, exposes our pride, or strips away false security, He is not being cruel—He is being faithful. Reverence is not fear that pushes us away; it is awe that pulls us into alignment. The fear of the Lord is not about terror—it is about truth. And truth, while often uncomfortable, is the only ground strong enough to build a life that lasts. For our God is a consuming fire. (Hebrews 12:29) That fire does not exist to destroy those who come humbly—but to burn away what cannot remain. "Lord God, Teach me to know You as You truly are, not as I want You to be. Strip away anything in me that resists Your authority. Give me a clean heart, a humble spirit, and a holy fear that leads to obedience. Let Your refining fire make me whole, not comfortable. I choose reverence over convenience and truth over applause. Amen."
