Sub to Jamie: / @altfocusofficialvlogs This is part 1 of a multi episode series: Episode 1: 👉 You are here! Episode 2: 👉 • Stuck on a hill in Coniston! Episode 3: 👉 • Exploring Tarn Hows Episode 4: 👉 • Diesel Heater Disaster! Cosy Rainy Night V... Episode 5: 👉 TBC We’re back in Coniston, Lake District for a proper 2-night van camping adventure — and the main mission is exploring the insane slate cliffs and emerald water of Hodge Close Quarry. No drama this time: Jamie’s sorted the van battery + heater, we’ve got a new windscreen cover that fits perfectly, and we even test out a pair of walkie talkies like absolute kids… which actually turns out useful when one of us is exploring and the other’s back at “home base”. Morning comes with drizzle and mist, but honestly it suits the quarry — moody, echoey, and properly epic. We head down the steep path, find the cave opening, spot old rusty track/girders from the quarry days, and I even consider dunking the action cam to show what’s under the water. Then… I squeeze in a drone flight (yes, I know… wind + rain isn’t ideal) just to capture the scale of the place. If you like vanlife UK, wild camping, Lake District adventures, and exploring abandoned/industrial landscapes — you’ll love this one. Chapters / Timestamps 0:46 – Arrive in Coniston + wild camp spot 1:11 – Plan for Hodge Close Quarry + campsite/pub stop 2:12 – Mystery box reveal 2:37 – Walkie talkies + first test 4:26 – Sleep plan + morning mission 4:32 – 7am start: rain, mist, breakfast prep 7:07 – First look at the quarry (fence viewpoint) 7:29 – Hiking down: steep sections + caution 9:04 – Nearing the cave opening 10:05 – Epic view + water level is high 11:36 – Filming Jamie + “FPV” style walk-through 12:04 – Old track/girder remnants + underwater view idea 14:40 – Drone flight attempt 16:03 – Drone recap + weather reality check 16:42 – Why Coniston/the Lakes never gets old Safety note (seriously) Hodge Close Quarry has sheer drops, unstable edges, slippery slate, and deep cold water. Don’t mess about near the edges, especially in wind/rain. Gear (as seen in the video) Action cam: DJI Action (5/6) Drone: DJI Mini 3 Walkie talkies (new toy 🤝) Van heater + battery setup (Jamie’s wizardry) If you enjoyed it, hit Like, Subscribe, and tell me in the comments: Would you swim in that water… or absolutely not?
