Today’s guest is someone I have been excited to sit down with. Abukar is one of those students every campus hopes for — the kind you can rely on without hesitation. If you needed someone to show up for a video, to offer thoughtful perspective on a project, to emcee an event, to help create momentum around an initiative — Abukar was there. Not just present, but prepared. More than involved — invested. He graduated from the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business with a degree in Business Administration and Management and a minor in Information Systems — and he did it as a Business Scholar, which speaks to both academic excellence and intellectual curiosity. He was also named a 2022 Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholar for Public Service, one of only 100 students nationwide selected for that inaugural cohort — an honor that signals not just achievement, but purpose. During his time at the University of Utah, he served as a Presidential Intern in the Office of Academic Affairs, one of just ten students representing the student voice at the highest level of university leadership. He later became President of the Student Alumni Board, where he worked to build a culture of giving on campus and help students understand the significance of the institution in the formation of alumni — that their relationship with the institution is reciprocal and enduring. He co-founded Oak River Group and serves as Chief Operating Officer, leading operations across e-commerce, retail, and brand development, including national platforms like Amazon and Walmart. He’s spearheading U.S. market entry for international brands. He’s building something. He is one of those students whose trajectory you’re simply excited to watch So I’m grateful he’s here — Let’s get to it.
