May 9, 2015 marked the first time since December 1994 that the Norfolk & Western No. 611 moved under her own steam. On May 21, I was lucky enough to catch her on the test run from Spencer, NC - Greensboro, NC and back. Less than two weeks later on May 30, 2015, the beautiful "J" class locomotive, the only one fortunate enough to escape the scrapper's torch, left the North Carolina Transportation Museum and headed back home, Roanoke bound. Here we see the mighty "J" singing her song once more through the Piedmont of North Carolina as well as the rolling hills and Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. I don't think that anyone who traveled far and wide to watch the mighty engine could complain about the weather, which couldn't have been better for the chase. This was definitely and experience that I'll never forget. Once again, I'd like to give a huge THANK YOU to those involved in the restoration and those who plan and execute these spectacular events. Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoy the video.
