February half-term has arrived, which heralds the beginning of a new operating season for many heritage railways around the UK. At the Watercress Line, the season starts with their ‘Magic of Locomotion’ event which takes places across the half-term; a family event with wizarding themes. 34072 “257 Squadron”, owned by Southern Locomotives Ltd, is currently visiting the Watercress to cover for their locomotive shortage, having entered service on the MHR during August last year. 34072 has spent the past couple of years based at the Spa Valley Railway, but is set to return to its former home of the Swanage Railway in the spring, to reclaim its place as a member of their home-fleet. With the departure of the Bulleid pacific looming, the opportunity to capture 34072 attacking the ’Alps’ once again proved too tempting. The MHR would employ their One Train Service Plus Ropley Shuttle timetable, with 34072 doing the heavy lifting while 1788 "Kilmersdon", owned by the Somerset and Dorset Railway Trust, would provide traction for the shuttle.
