With India facing the throwing threat of climate extremes, this short film highlights how rural communities are using high-tech artificial intelligence (AI) tools to help combat climate impacts. Crucially though, the latest tech developments are being used to support traditional knowledge, rather than replace it. CRISP-M, a Climate Resilience Information System and Planning app powered by AI, was launched to enhance the climate resilience impacts of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). The AI tool doesn't just provide accurate drought protection information, but also recommends the best drought or flood resilience structures based on 10 GIS layers and future climate risks. These recommendations include nature-based solutions such as check dams, trenches, ponds, afforestation and land development – enabling the communities to decide which are best.
