Tire sideslip angle is very import key factor to understand tire dynamics, vehicle handling, ABS, ESP. This vidio contains the introductory explanion of tire slip angle part 1 video. As the first video of this issue, there are various interesting aspects of explanation of tire contact patch physics, shear and normal stress distribution, steering angle, wheel slip angle, tire sideslip angle, pneumatic trail, self aligning torque, overturning moment and many more. Longitudinal slip I explained in theprevious vedio happens in one-dimensional line. It occurs only if there is either braking oracceleration moment. On the otherhand, Lateral slip happens in the two-dimensional plane. The same as longitudinal slip, lateral sideslip angle happens only if there exists a cornering force. What happened in the tire contact patch in the cornering movement? The bahavior of tire contact patch at the cornering can be analized by integrated consideration on normal stress, shearstress, tire elasticity Shear stress in the leading half is smaller than that in the following half. This generates the resultant lateral reaction force with rearward offset distance(pneumatic trail) from the wheelcenter and causes self aligning torque. Wheel center moves outward from thecenter of tire contact patch. This moves the acting point of verticalforce outward and generates the overturning moment about longitudinal axis. Tire sideslip is not easy to understand atfirst, but you can be an expert if youfollow my explanation.
