Appalachian Trail NOBO, Day 13, March 9, 2026: Siler Bald Shelter to Wesser Bald Shelter

17.9 miles for the day Total ascent: 4244 feet Total descent: 4917 feet Total grade 9.7% 131.2 miles of AT completed 141.4 miles hiked Total ascent of AT completed: 31,006 feet Slept great at Siler Bald Shelter, 10.5 hours. Nice sunrise. Got on trail at 915. Made it to Wayah Bald and the Byrne Memorial Tower with fantastic views of the Little Tennessee Valley. Had lunch there. Discussed where to stay with a friend I was hiking with. I wanted to go to Wesser Bald Shelter which was 18 miles for the day. He suggested eating dinner early which I did Cold Spring Shelter mile 12 which worked great. Back on trail at 4 and hiked until almost 7. The climb up Wesser Bald was tough, about the same Albert Mountain. Down to Wesser Bald Shelter where two others are also staying. Hung my bear bag and to bed by 1945. Heading to the NOC tomorrow for resupply and lunch then press on for the next shelter. Hope to get to Fontana Village by Thursday and enter the Smokies on Friday.
