Esta es cómo Santa María rogó a su Hijo por el alma del monje de San Pedro, por el que le habían rogado los santos y no quiso hacerlo sino por ella. "Por Dios, es muy de razón que la Virgen tenga más poder que cuantos santos hay." Es muy propio que pueda mucho cerca de Dios la que tuvo en su cuerpo, y, después, lo trajo en sus brazos muchas veces, y la que por miedo a los judíos, huyó con Él a Egipto, a una tierra del rey Faraón. Esta Señora gloriosa quiso mostrar un gran milagro, en un monasterio antiguo, que estaba cerca de la ciudad de Colonia, donde solían morar unos monjes, que tenían la advocación de San Pedro. Entre aquellos buenos frailes había uno que tenía más gusto por los placeres del mundo que por la vida celestial; y que, para curarse de una enfermedad, bebió una medicina, y murió sin confesión. Y, tan pronto como hubo muerto el demonio se apoderó del alma y creyó poder llevársela; pero lo defendió San Pedro y rogó a Dios para que el alma del monje fuese perdonada por Él. Después de que San Pedro lo hubo dicho, Dios le respondió: "¿No sabes la profecía que dijo el buen rey David, que el hombre con mancha de pecado no permanecerá ante mí, ni será nunca compañero en mi casa?" San Pedro quedó muy triste cuando tal razón hubo oído y llamó a cuantos santos vio estar allí, y rogaron a Dios por el fraile, pero Él les respondió igual que había contestado ya y no de otra manera. Cuando San Pedro vio que los santos así habían fallado, fue a pedir merced a Santa María, que rogase a su Hijo que no quisiese consentir que el alma del fraile la tuviese prisionera el demonio. En seguida Santa María fue a rogar a su Hijo y Salvador que perdonase por su amor a aquel fraile, y dijo Él: "Lo haré, pues tenéis gusto en ello; pero vuelva el alma al cuerpo, y que cumpla los votos que profesó." Cuando Dios cumplió este ruego de Santa María, el fraile, que estaba muerto, se levantó en pie y contó al convento cómo había estado a punto de perderse, si no fuera por Santa María, a quien Dios se lo dio en don. Saint Peter became very sad when he heard this answer. He called all the saints together from wherever he could find them. They all prayed to God for the friar, but He responded exactly as he had to Saint Peter. When Saint Peter saw that the saints had failed, he then appealed to the mercy of Holy Mary, asking Her to beseech Her Son that he not allow the devil to hold the soul of his monk imprisoned. At once, Holy Mary went to Her Son the Savior to ask Him to pardon that friar for Her sake. He replied: "Mother, I shall do it, for it so pleases you. Restore the soul to his body and let him fulfill his calling." When God granted this prayer for Holy Mary, the friar who was dead rose to his feet.
