In this video, I have discussed the five essential elements of a novel. Basic elements of novel are plot, character, setting, theme, and conflict, as well as the narrative perspective. #englishliterature #bsenglish #novel Firstly we will discuss the characters, who are the people or creatures that populate the story. For example Pip and Estella are the fictional characters in Charles Dickens' Great Expectations. E.M Forster divided the character into two forms: 1. Flat or Simple Character, 2. Round or Complex Character, Flat character is unchanging and have single quality. Round character is much more complex and have many traits. For example Pip is round Character. The second important element of Novel is plot, which is the sequence of events that make up the story. A well-crafted plot will have a clear beginning, middle, and end, with rising action, a climax, and a resolution. A plot has five levels: 1. Exposition or introduction 2. Rising Action 3. Climax or turning point 4. Falling Action 5. Resolution Conflict is the tension or opposition that drives the plot forward. It can be external, such as a physical battle, or internal, such as a character’s struggle with their own emotions or beliefs. Then i have discussed the distinction between the Plot and Story created by E.M Forster in his book Aspects of novel. Then i have discussed the fourth element of Novel. The setting Is the environment in which the story takes place, including the time period, location, and cultural background. The setting can influence the plot and characters, creating a rich and immersive experience for the reader. The theme Is the underlying message or meaning of the story. It can be a universal idea or a specific message that the author wants to convey to the reader. Finally, we will discuss the importance of narrative perspective, which is the point of view from which the story is told. This can include first-person, third-person omniscient, or third-person limited perspective, among others. The narrative perspective can affect how the story is perceived by the reader and can influence the tone and style of the novel. Following queries have been elaborated: 1. Elements of The novel 2.
