Relations between Brazil and Israel are traditional and predate the creation of the State of Israel. In 1947, the Brazilian ambassador Oswaldo Aranha presided over the Second General Assembly of the United Nations, which approved the Partition Plan for Palestine, providing for the constitution of two states, one Arab and the other Jewish. In 1948, the State of Israel was founded. Brazil and Israel established diplomatic relations in 1949. The Brazilian diplomatic representation in Tel Aviv was opened in 1951, having been elevated to the rank of embassy in 1958. The first Brazilian ambassador in history, Odette de Carvalho e Souza, was also the first Brazilian ambassador to Israel, heading the Brazilian embassy in the country from 1959 to 1961. In this video, we walk through the trajectory of diplomatic relations between Brazil and Israel, from the historical dimension to the present.
