It’s about our first time in South Korea! Osan and Busan—two cities that gave us a first taste of this fascinating country. Subscribe to our channel for more TRAVELiving adventures, and let's explore the world together! We started our journey flying with Air Premia, where we were surprised to find a missing seat next to us—just the two of us in the back of the plane! Touching down in South Korea, we were immediately struck by how smooth the immigration process was. A quick arrival card and stamp, and we were in! With little knowledge of South Korea beyond K-pop and its location on a map, we set out to explore. Our first challenge? Figuring out public transportation. Seoul’s transit system is incredibly modern and well-organized, but Google Maps doesn’t work here, making navigation a bit tricky. Instead, locals rely on an app called Naver, which functions as both a map and search engine. Our first stop: Osan, where we visited Jonathan’s brother and his wife. While they worked during the week, we explored their neighborhood, walking through a scenic nature park and soaking in our first impressions of South Korean culture. One thing we quickly noticed was the lack of English, making even grocery shopping an adventure. We discovered a store called “No Brand,” filled with minimalist, logo-free packaging—an interesting contrast to the flashy marketing we’re used to. Korea also has its own versions of everything: from search engines to convenience stores to food. Speaking of food, we found an incredible Domino’s Pizza with purple crust and toppings unlike anything we’d seen before. Next, we hopped on a train to Busan, the coastal city known for its beautiful harbor and vibrant streets. We stayed in one of the cheapest hotels we could find, which, to our surprise, turned out to be a Japanese-style hotel—small, functional, and efficient, much like a cruise ship cabin. Eager to explore before dark, we wandered through the bustling streets and made our way to a highly-rated Korean barbecue restaurant. This was our first time experiencing authentic Korean BBQ, and it did not disappoint. The setup was unlike anything we’d ever seen—grills built into the tables, a vent system to absorb smoke, and an array of sauces, sides, and seasonings. The staff even helped us navigate the meal, cooking the pork right in front of us. We tried everything, including pork skin boiled in cinnamon water—a surprisingly sweet and chewy treat. This adventure was just the beginning of our South Korea experience. From navigating public transportation to tasting unique flavors, everything felt new and exciting. And we’re just getting started.
