VENICE, CA — Wednesday, August 20, 2025 — A coordinated multi-agency cleanup operation was carried out Wednesday morning on in Venice as part of the city’s ongoing effort to improve sanitation, safety, and accessibility in public spaces. The operation involved personnel from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), the Department of Public Works, and Clean Harbors Environmental Services. Wearing protective suits and safety gear, sanitation crews dismantled and removed debris from an encampment along Third Street while officers provided security and maintained order on-site. Outreach workers from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) were also present, distributing food, water, clothing, and hygiene kits to individuals affected by the enforcement action. A representative from Councilwoman Traci Park’s office was on hand to observe and assist with coordination, underscoring the city’s strategy of pairing enforcement with service-based outreach. Advance notices had been posted prior to the sweep, giving unhoused individuals time to gather their belongings. During the operation, individuals were informed that they could keep up to 60 gallons of personal property under city ordinance. Those present collected what they could and departed without major incident. Items left behind were collected and discarded in accordance with city protocol. LAMC §56.11 prohibits sitting, lying, sleeping, or storing personal property in public rights-of-way that obstruct access or create health and safety hazards. No arrests or citations were reported during the Wednesday morning sweep. The cleanup reflects Los Angeles’ broader strategy of balancing public health standards with outreach efforts, aiming to connect individuals experiencing homelessness with services while restoring public spaces for community use. Santa Monica Closeup continues to document the evolving balance between enforcement, outreach, and public safety efforts across Los Angeles’ Westside. #Venice #Homelessness #LAPD #LosAngeles #publicsafety — 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝘂𝘀𝗲.
