Our trip began with an unexpected challenge when the Howrah–NJP train was delayed by nearly 8 hours, disrupting our entire schedule. From NJP, we travelled to Manebhanjan, known as the Land of Land Rovers, and began our ascent in one of the iconic old Land Rovers. On Day 1, we drove to Tumling through misty mountain roads and stayed overnight at Green Hill Paradise Homestay, experiencing freezing temperatures and the calm of this quiet border village. On Day 2, we continued from Tumling to Sandakphu, navigating extremely jerky and dangerous mountain roads that felt like they were constantly dancing beneath us. En route, we stopped at Kalipokhri, a sacred high-altitude lake deeply connected to Buddhist beliefs. We spent the night at Sunrise Homestay, Sandakphu, braving intense cold and waking up to an unforgettable sunrise revealing Mount Everest, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, and Makalu in a single frame. After lunch, we took a risky drive to Aahl (Sunset Point), where powerful winds, flying dust, and steep roads tested our courage, but the view above the clouds made it all worth it. On our return journey, we visited Chitrey Monastery, witnessing the richness and serenity of Buddhist culture—bringing a peaceful end to an adventurous mountain journey.
